It is very interesting.
I also read the Susan Bartoletti books and was facinated by it. She wrote a novel based on called The Boy who Dared. I can't wait to read that too.
Thanks for stopping by.Alexhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15988251415347075888noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3966330143385469554.post-3297655624449505662010-12-14T13:54:57.844-05:002010-12-14T13:54:57.844-05:00Hi Alex.

I'll make a point of it now.
I recently read Hitler Youth by Susan Bartoletti and was fascinated by the indoctrination process that young people in Germany were exposed to. I expect that I'll find that here, too.
TammyTammy Flandershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05544436792429289090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3966330143385469554.post-63200814653925999642010-12-14T08:53:12.309-05:002010-12-14T08:53:12.309-05:00Tara, I am glad you found this useful. Thank you, too, for the links - we will be moving on to studying biographies as a genre, and this will be a wonderful way to present the book to my students.Tarahttp://tmsteach.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3966330143385469554.post-28457415840832059282010-12-13T12:31:29.234-05:002010-12-13T12:31:29.234-05:00Hi Carolina,

Yes, there is an abundance of WW II literature for kids out there - some good, some not so good.
But it will keep me busy for a while.Alexhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15988251415347075888noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3966330143385469554.post-82925537541884204902010-12-13T12:11:37.424-05:002010-12-13T12:11:37.424-05:00Hi Alex,
I think the project you have going here ...Hi Alex,

I think the project you have going here is truly wonderful. Not many people stop to think of the effects the War has had on children and how easy it might have been for them to fall victim of indoctrination. As I read your description of Alfons' and Helen's stories (and how beautifully they came together in the end), I can't help but think how neglected children were and still are today.
The mind of a child is easily impressionable and one must never forget the power the environment can have in forging who they will become. It's hard to blame Alfons (for this reason), although, as you said, we cannot exonerate him for what he did.

One thing that really amazes me is that I had no idea so much literature existed on this subject!

Great work, Alex.WritnBlockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13013860723369165705noreply@blogger.com
